Saturday review
Nov. 6th, 2005 07:09 pmSo after a wake-up call from mom(not phone cell phone all the way across the room, ringing loudly and waking me from a nice sleep) I cleaned up a bit and did some laundry before heading out to Mom and Dad's to see Grandpa and hand him gifts to take up to Ohio with him. Debbie and Larry(who's looking a lot better but still too skinny) were there with their kids, so we actually had all of the Texas clan together. Sadly a pretty rare event despite the fact we all live within 20 minutes of each other.
Mom decided that she needed to go the Katy Mills Mall and get some things for my Aunt Jenny. She invited me along and decided she just had to take Carolyn too. I don't know why she bothered as all she did was dump Carolyn on me (Take Carolyn to see the alligator at Rainforest Cafe. Take Carolyn to ride the merry-go-round) while she shopped. -_- Oh well I at least Starbucks and get a Pumpkin Spice Frappe out of the trip.
Back at the house we roasted marshmellows and I got to hear the truth behind some of the hospital drama when my brother was sick. The story I heard, my parents filled with righteous anger over the fact that Larry's nurse didn't know who his wife was(Debbie just didn't visit while this nurse was on duty) was that on Friday night, while Larry was still in the ICU, that Debbie had gone to see a movie with her sister. To be honest, I didn't see a problem with something like this, because at that point, while Larry was still sick, he was pretty much out of danger and Debbie would have needed a break by then. Hell by all reports she had already had two emotional breakdowns, so yeah she needed a break.
The true story however is that while my brother was still in the ICU, he was heavily drugged and bound at the wrists(to make sure he didn't move around too much and hurt himself) Debbie and my dad were in the room and Larry signals to them to come over. Debbie was on one side my dad on the other, each holding one of Larry's hands. Larry tried to sit up, but with the way he was tied, had to use his abdominal muscles where he had a lot of stitches and staples. Debbie told him not to sit up or he could pop his stitches. My father snapped at her telling her not to be sarcastic or to exaggerate. Now this may not seem like much, but at this point Debbie had been elbowed aside, repeatedly, by my mother, father, Grandpa and aunt Jenny, effectively blocking her from her husband. So at this point she had had enough, cursed my father off and stormed out of the hospital to cry her eyes out. The next day she and my father apoligized to each other, hugged and she thought things were done. That's not even the end of the story, when my brother was finally out of the ICU and she had a chance to come back, the first thing he asked her was "what's this shit I heard about you talking to my father that way?"
Fortunately, once she explained her side of the story my brother agreed that she was right and that it was really petty of my mother to even bring it up. This is why Debbie is not going up to Ohio this year and dealing with my family. Gah!! I can't stand how most of my family treats Debbie. She was my friend before she married Larry. The most I can do right now, is make sure she's included as family in things and try to defend her when my family gets nasty(even if they don't listen to me)
I asked Debbie if she was excited about seeing Cats and she expressed concerned about Carolyn being too young for the show(and was annoyed that she was invited as Carolyn's caretaker then for any other reason) So asked if I minded her backing her and Carolyn out of the event, while I would love having Debbie there, I've been dreading having my neice at the show and that's what I told her. So that's worked out, and after the show me and Debbie plan on going and having a girl's night out. ^__^ Look out Houston, the Adams girls are hitting the town.
