Can't sleep(trust me just spent the last hr tossing and turning), and I have work in the morning. Ugh!

Went into work for four overs of overtime on yesterday and it was kinda funny. I came in and shortly after everyone else left because of towop(time off without pay, done on a volunteer basis when call volume is low) Oh well as long as my overtime was approved I don't care, it made for a nice easy four hours.

Except for one caller

I had a guy call today upset and yelling in my ear. What had happened is he called yesterday and placed a stop payment on a check by phone in the amount of 5000.00. Now with checks by phone it can be a little tricky as the payee may present the item electronically or as a paper check. SO we have to place two stops cover both possibilities. Now we can only place a stop on a check if we have the check number(for electronic items all we need the the name of the payee)

The customer didn't have the check number and the rep could only place the stop to cover the electronic possibility. Naturally murphy's law kicks in and the item came through as a paper check and was paid, resulting in 240.00 in insufficient funds charges and other things bouncing.

So he's mad, claiming the rep he spoke to before had told him he didn't need the check number and that the stop was placed, and i'm trying to work escalation to see if we can reverse the check payment and get the items that bounced paid. At one point I go back to the customer and offer to refund the 240$ because that's all I can do at that moment. His response *dripping with sarcasm*"Oh you're refund the fees that's nice" I try to apologize again for the inconveniece and states my apology means nothing. Plus he keeps yelling into the phone, that even with my headset volume as low as i could get it still hurt my ears and made me want to yank my headset off. I put him on hold as I need to go back to the customer advocate. Give her the update of what i've offered and the customers response, and she states that since he wasn't happy with the refund offer then he wasn't getting it.

I was floored, but transfered the call and burst out laughing because the guy's rudeness had just cost him 240.00. He may possibily be able to go up the food chain and find some-one who'll refund it but at least then he'll have to work for it. Thus giving a perfect example of why you should be rude to customer service reps and that yes there is a bit of justice in the world.

hmm still bored and feeling way to bouncy *pokes aim list* and no-one one's on to play with. Guess it time go go surfing until the allergy medicine takes effect and knocks me out.
