Akon report
Jun. 6th, 2004 06:58 pmBack from A-kon and hoping I can stop my brain from oozing out of my ears long enough to make a coherent report.
Friday, called Blue an hour before I was supposed for her to come over, load everything into my car and drive up to Dallas. The drive up was reletively uneventful except when we stopped for gas and food at some redneck, backwater, hick town. Walked into Jack in the Crack which was in the middle of a rush so we had to wait for our food we got to hear one woman shouting across the room to another about how her daughter was going up for 30 years. We got our food and ate in the car to escape them. Got to the hotel, checked in and found a line for the elevator. And there was a line for the elevator the entire weekend. Got my weekend pass and hit the dealers room. Got some manga and some nice cheap cels from Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Was tempted by pretty kimonos and the possibilty of getting a cosplay outfit for Kenshin. Went out to dinner and Harry potter with Blue and Wren. The credits for Harry Potter were too cute as we giggled through them. Went back to the hotel and crashed.
Saturday: Got up and hit the dealers room again, gave into temptation and got the Kenshin costume, Was even able to put it one right over the shorts and red tanktop I was wearing, put my hair in a ponytail(hey it was already red) few marks from a red pen and viola' Instant Kenshin Cosplay. ^_^ I wasn't even down the esclator on the way back to the room to trade stuff out of my purse and into the red pouch the costume shop gave me before people asked for pictures. Took part in a psuedo documentary about the con, a scene featuring fangirls chasing and taking down a kenshin cosplayer. The director decided she wanted a fangirl who was dressed as kenshin to also chase him and I was right there. It was silly and fun. And I was highly amused when another person asking for a picture said I was the best kenshin they had seen. ^__^ Bought some issues of Robin I didn't have. *blinks* I want to an anime convention and bought American comics? Oookay.
Later we meet up with Sam and Rick and went out for sushi. I stuffed meself to the gills because sadly this was my first real meal of the day. While Blue and I had brought food(lunch meat, bread, cheese and fruit) it was such a hassled to get back up to the room that we just didn't bother. And the sushi place was goooood, All you can eat buffet with a wide variety and the deserts(espeically the chocolate dipped strwberriesBack to the hotel and wilting fast.
Grabbed a can of jolt and went exploring. Got stuck in the elevator with a creepy guy. Guy stood about 8-10 inches taller than me, looked down and in a low monotone for said "I see you are a follower of Lucifer"
Me: huh?
Guy: *points almost touching the silver dragon pendant/pectoral I wear* He is the true power of our time
Me: I bought it cause it was pretty.
Guy: mmm. Seperated at birth.
At this point I pressing as far against the side of the elevator as I can, and he's not done.
Guy: Are you taking part in the larp tournament tomorrow"
Me: Uh no I don't do larp
Guy: That's too bad I could use some-one to cheer me on.
I started staring the the floor counting and preying for the elevator to move faster
and went running as soon as the doors opened.
Met up with Blue again at the Misfits of Comedy improve panel. Turned out to be the most fun we've had at the con. If I had been on an aisle chair I probably would have fallen out of it laughing, as it was I was clinging to blue in an effort to stay upright. It finally ended, much to the dismay of the audience and we crawled our way to bed.
Sunday: Got up checked out, lugged our stuff to the car and did one last run through the dealer's room. I got the Arislan dvd set and poster for 30$, a bishonen coloring book and more robin comics. Wanted to get a Fruit Baskets artbook, but the store would only let me use my card if the purchase was 40$ or more, the book was 24$ and there was nothing else I wanted enough to spend the money on. Blue picked up some cels, and we were offically conned out. Got lost on Dallas' oneway streets trying to find the way back to the freeway, but finally managed. I will admit I was speeding most of the way home, but I was tired and sore. When we stopped for real food at Ihop my legs were so stiff and sore I wanted to cry. And the nice people at Ihop told me about smoke coming from the hood of my car 0_0 went and looked, we smelled oil burning and it looked like there was some oil on the muffler. I had my oil changed last wenseday because it was due. The oil tank was still full, so the only thing we can figure is some oil spilled outside the tank when there were filling it and I finally got it hot enough to start burning. One the last of the drive home there wasn't anymore smoke and the temp gauge never changed so everything looks fine now.
I'm not home and catching up on email and lj flist. I'm poor and tired but I had fun.
