Ok after stubbling on it's entry at tvtropes.org(don't go there it will ruin your life) I decided to check out Saint Seiya and started watching it at animecrazy.net. Kinda interesting and I'm digging the 80's anime cheese and aesthetic. For 25 eps it's been boys in mystical armor, lots of fighting(it's shonen what do you expect) and then from outta nowhere comes 3 boys who's armor comes from transforming mecha(which doubles as their transportation until they need to fight)

Me: . . . Mecha? WTF! Where did this shit come from?

then I just loled. Still waiting for an in show explanation, but for right now I'm going with the creator thought it'll be cool and threw it in.
