My Hurricen Ike Report
Sep. 13th, 2008 11:12 pmWell I'm still at my parents, their power was restored a few hours after I got here(lucky them) and with it came internet YAY!
Last night:
I was up watching the storm and chatting awith a friend online until about 2am when my lights started to really flicker and my tv reception started breaking up. I shut down the computer, shoved the cats into their carriers and holed up in my downstairs closet under the stairs. Where I was was right next to my AC so as long as I had power I couldn't really hear the storm, but when the power went I could hear it.
Cheser and carrie did not react well to the storm, and Carrie was worse. She actually managed to bust out of her carrier and I could not get her back in because went completely crazy. You breathed or looked at her the wrong way and she would start growling and hissing like she was about to tear your face off. She settled by the door and I eventually just let her be.
Tried to distract myself by playing ff4 on my ds and Me and My Katamari on the psp, didn't last long.
ladymako71 kept me updated via text messages. I drifted in and out of sleep simply due to exhaustion until my friend Misty came knocking at my door around 10:30am.
There was a lot of debris around my apartment, with fallen branches, and on the other side of my building a tree had fallen onto an apartment(I've heard the apt managements has already been out and moved the resident into another apartment) I took some pictures and texted my mom and phone calls are having trouble getting through. Then packed my suitcase, tossed all the frozen meat I had in my freezer into a cooler with frozen water bottles. The went to reload cats into carriers. Teddy was again a total sweet and earned him nickname of teddy bear for going in with a minimum of fuss. Chester made me chase him a little. And Carrie went totally insane. It took me an hour of chasing her through my apartment, poking at her with my vacuum when she ran under the bed, a few matrix kitty moves before I finally corralled her in th upstairs bathroom. I threw a blanket over her, bundled her up and shoved her into a carrier.
Driving out I saw an oak tree in front of the nearby methodist church had fallen, but fortunately not accross the road, or onto the church.
Eventually made it out to my parents and have been chilling out here ever since. Hoping they can get power back to my apartment soon so I can go home.
