Apr. 9th, 2006 12:28 amSo today I went out with my friend Jala to see museums. First we tried the Menil, but it didn't open until 11 and we got there at 10:10. So we walked over to the Rothko Chapel which was pretty interesting but very hard to describe, and after finding that the Byzantine chapel didn't open until 11 either, we headed off to the MFA. My favorite peices were sculptures made from shirts and shirt collars that had been stiffens and linked together. Very Hard to describe and I can't remember the guy's name for the life of me(it's been a very long day) Saw some of out favorite paintings, and the portrait of George Washington(the one that appears on the 1 dollar bill) Then we hit the CAM. The more amusing stuff was downstairs. A pile of packing peanuts piled into a corner with several fans set up around them. This made the peice be in constant motion as peanuts were blown to to top and gravity pulled others down into the empty space. It was whacked out and very cool to watch.
Now it was well past 11 so we headed back toward the Menil. First we hit the Byzantine Chapel Fresco Museum. Really if you come to Houston you should see this. The space is really beautiful and the frescos are simple gorgeous. And then the Menil, which is interesting because it's pretty much in a constant state of flux. The collection is so big the peices are swapped out a lot and you rarely see the same peice twice.
Finally we headed back to my place, first stopping at Blockbuster for movies, We got American Psycho because Jala wanted a movie with Jared Leto in it and Howl's Moving Castle because I wanted to see it. Then we hit HEB and Sally's Beauty Supply for snacks, drinks and hairdye.
Got home and immediately started playing with the hair color. We colors Jala's long bangs and the tips of her hair bright red with a brand of punky hair color that actually lightens as well as colors so no pre-bleaching needed.. The bangs came out a lot brighter than the tips as we did them first and washed it all out at the same time.

For some reason it came out orange on my camera but it's really a lot more red in real life.
As for me I had been wanting a drastic change in my hair, but as work has banned my punky colors and I don't want to actually cut my hair I'd be feeling rather trapped. So I made the decision to color my hair black and try having bangs for a while. Which is what I did. Jala put the color in helping me make sure it was even and once it dried I attacked my bangs with a razor blade. The result is I now have emotastic hair.

So far the response has been pretty good, though it's going to take some getting used to (say the girl who used to have purple and pink hair)
