Thanksgiving and Renfest
Nov. 28th, 2009 02:20 amSince my mother had her gallbladder removed last friday(and boy did that come out of nowhere) I wasn't sure if my family was going to have a Thanksgiving dinner or not till the 25th when I got an email and a text from my mom saying Dad bought a turkey and it'll be ready around 5:30pm. So I baked up some pumpkin bread and headed out in the afternoon.
Mom is feeling better, but still sore and isn't able to lift anything. I got roped into decorating the Christmas tree again. Which I should just declare as the family tradition as it's been happening for the past couple of years now. Larry, Debbie and my nieces came over and the final touches were put on dinner. We then ate till we were ready to pop.
I grilled Debbie and Larry on gift ideas for Christmas. Larry apparently needs the PS3 remote and Dad needs batteries for his cordless tools. Mom also gave one of my gifts early, which was my dad's PS3(he wanted to use it as a media server, but didn't hook up the way he wanted so it got passed on to me) Need to pick up a game to play and cords to hook it up, but it is still quite shiny. After fighting off the turkey coma my parents loaded me up with leftovers and I head home. When I got home I gave my kitties some turkey as a treat
Friday, since I don't do Black Friday shopping(at least not at the mall) I went up to the Renaissance Festival with my friend Jen. To give an idea how busy and crowded it was, it took about an hour to get up to Magnolia(faire is just outside of the town) and then another hour to get through Magnolia. I did accomplish one goal I had for the drive up, found a guy selling firewood(10$ a stack) which is so much better then the stupid 4$ for 3 dinky pieces of wood the grocery stores sell.
We reach the faire and grab our tickets. Heading inside we go straight to Heaven in earths traders, because Jen wanted new shoes from them, and I wanted some cushioning soles for my pair. After that I accomplished my next big goal which was purchasing fairy wings for my nieces Christmas gifts. Happily the guy was nice enough to hold them until the end of the day so I didn't have to carry them around. After that we were pretty much free. I bought a "stocking" from the pirates, basically a huge stocking that they fill with various sharp pointy objects(again pick up at the end of the day after their auction/raffle) Then bought a ring, steel, tribal design and cz in the center. The got a perfume bottle necklace, but not from my usual place. Instead it's a small blown glass vial, clear with red swirl.
We got food and let our feet rest. Did see some new entertainers this year, both were one stilts in in costumes. One as an Ent, and the other as a dragon/monster thing. I wish I hadn't forgotten my camera as the Ent was pretty awesome looking. I then got my hair braided into a lace crown and picked up a silver/red rose circlet that accented it perfectly.
We started heading back to the pirate shop for their auction/raffle and so I could pick up my stocking. The auction part was interesting, people would bid on items as normal for an auction, sometime then the pirate would knock part of the price off, like 10$ or half off the winning bid(winning bid 60, divide by 2 so the winner pays 30$) and then pick people from the crowd who can buy the same item for the same price. And for the ladies, bouncing helps to get the captain's attention. They had a lovely pole weapon that ended up being 30$, and I bounced for it. What can I say I like my shinies? Then picked up my stocking, the fairy wings and Jen and I headed home.
Home and tired, and tomorrow braving the mall to pick up things I need and christmas supplies, and time for bed.
