Had to share this one
Feb. 19th, 2005 10:41 pmThis was my last call of the night and it's a bad situation, but even the caller found it funny. Last week his car was stolen, he got it back right away but at the time didn't realize that he had a book of checks in the car which weren't there when he got the car back. And now his account is negative 1000$ because of the unauthorized checks that have been going through and bouncing. There wasn't much I could do except direct him to fraud management on monday. But he asked me who the checks were being written to, so I look at some photocopies of the checks and notice that the printed address had been scratched out and another one written in.
Me: Uhm sir, where are you located right now?
Him: I'm in Orlando FL, why?
Me: It looks like they've been writing their home address on the checks, it's in Clermont FL
Him: Yeah that's a suburd of Orlando. Damn, that's dumb.
Me: It also looks like they have their driver's liscense number on the checks
Him: Ok so monday just get some copies and turn them over to the police and speak with fraud
So think we can expect hearing about them on America's Dumbest Criminal soon?
Me: Yeah
I felt bad for the guy because his account is in a big mess, but OMFG those criminals were DUMB!!
